Jim Rensimer

Jim Rensimer is an experienced trial lawyer, representing people and companies in multi – fatality wrongful death and serious personal injury claims, as well as high-stakes business disputes. Jim brings a relentless competitive spirit, believing that strategic and aggressive use of the rules of law procedure and evidence is the most effective approach for advocating his client’s rights.

Jim has spear-headed litigation and trial strategy across the spectrum of wrongful death, personal injury, and business lawsuits. He has prosecuted and defended alcohol providers in drunk-driver lawsuits, and corporations for injuries caused by dangerous property conditions and business operations. As 2nd chair at the 2006 trial, Jim developed the strategy and presented expert witnesses at trial in a wrongful death lawsuit against the alcohol provider and drunk driver leading to a $13.6M verdict. Jim proved gross negligence against a demolition contractor for the death of its project foreman when a building crushed him to death, getting a 6-figure arbitration award in 2013. In October 2024, Jim won a directed verdict defending a large construction contractor against a multi-million dollar premises liability lawsuit.

In commercial litigation, Jim has successfully litigated consumer protection lawsuits, insurance claims for denying insurance coverage, and breach of many types of contract. Through years of wide-ranging engagements, he recognizes the legal system is complicated and daunting, which can result in legal rights being compromised or deprived altogether. Often, everyday people are at a disadvantage to the powerful businesses with resources to “lawyer up” when they need to. Jim is driven by the conviction that every client deserves a voice and a legal champion willing to stand up to the most formidable adversaries.

Before joining Sorrels Law, Jim fine-tuned his lawyering skill and judgment working with some of the most respected lawyers in the State of Texas, from the beginning of his career with a small law firm, to becoming partner at a larger firm, to managing his own law firm for 15 years. Jim feels privileged to work within our justice system. He values the confidence his clients have in entrusting him with their most important legal affairs. To do the job right, Jim has learned it takes not only a team effort, but also a shared compassion for all people involved with the lawsuit process.

Jim completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin and his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law. He co-authored Dram Shop And Liquor Liability, published in 2002. Jim has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in the State of Texas. When not working, Jim loves time with his family, loves the outdoors with their dogs, and plays golf and acoustic guitar (although not that great).
