Ford Recalls Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs Over Break Issue

Ford is recalling nearly 115,000 2021 and 2022 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to a potential reduction in the power break performance related to the rear brake lining. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determined their brakes do not meet federally mandated requirements. According to the NHTSA, the driver may have to apply more brake pedal force, and the distance required to stop the vehicle may be extended, increasing the risk of a crash in certain situations.

The 2021-2022 Ford Escape uses the same brake system as the Ford Bronco Sport, so the NHTSA compliance test relates to both vehicles. Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by this issue. Customers will start being notified on January 10 to bring in their vehicles for a fix. In the meantime, Ford Bronco and Sport owners can check the NHTSA recalls website to see if their vehicle is involved.
