Recall on Three Types of Boppy Lounger Pillows After 8 Infants Die from Suffocation

The Boppy Co. is recalling three types of baby pillows after 8 infants died from suffocation between December 2015 and June 2020. The infants were placed on their back, side, or stomach on the newborn lounger and were found on their stomach or side. The Boppy Co. is recalling all of the 3.3 million baby loungers sold and the products covered are the Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers, and Pottery Barn Newborn Loungers.

The Boppy Co. states that the lounger was not marketed as an infant sleep product and includes warnings against unsupervised use. The company is committed to doing everything possible to safeguard babies including communicating the safe use of their products and educating the public about the importance of following all instructions, warnings, and risks associated with unsafe infant sleep practices. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has directed consumers to immediately stop using the recalled loungers and contact The Boppy Co. for a refund.
